Veng Sakhon has asked the World Bank to Fund Three Important projects
Phnom Penh (MGO) - On September 15th, 2021, H.E. Minister Veng Sakhon had a meeting with H.E. Maryam Salim and her colleagues at the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries for a courtesy call after the World Bank has appointed Maryam Salim as its new Country Manager for Cambodia.
During the meeting, the Minister informed the guests that in order to keep up with the economic and social development situation, especially in and after the context of Covid-19, the Minister requested her to check and consider the possibility of supporting the following three major projects:
First, to assist the vegetable production chain and the assembling of production units in order to assure supply, quality, safety, and price throughout the nation, particularly in the Phnom Penh area connecting the market network with location, storage structure, and shipping.
Second, to continue to modernize the agricultural sector in order to improve the value chain, build and improve infrastructure that supports fruit crop production, processing, and export, as well as promote agricultural extension services, research, and seed production in order to increase yield, fertilizer and pesticide management, and human resource capacity and national laboratory capacity. To fulfill the Royal Government's vision of exporting Cambodian agricultural goods to foreign markets, the Ministry and stakeholders must do their best and enhance their responsibilities.
Third, to develop the agricultural sector seeks to increase manufacturing productivity, assure quality and safety, enhance and extend research, breeding, and widespread distribution of fish species and feed, as well as human resource training. In addition, building manufacturing value chains, markets, and key support infrastructure remain a priority.
H.E. Minister has requested the World Bank to examine and assist the Ministry's projects to enhance manufacturing productivity, improve quality and safety, reinforce production chains, and fulfill the requirements of Cambodian agricultural exports to the worldwide market. The Minister expects that collaboration with the World Bank will continue to improve in order to promote the agriculture sector for future growth.
In response, Her Excellency Maryam Salim stated that the proposal will be discussed in-depth with other experts and stakeholders and that she hopes the World Bank will continue to deepen its partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries even better in the future.
