More than $ 4 million will be distributed to needy people in the lockdown areas in Phnom Penh, Takhmao and Sihanoukville

Phnom Penh (MGO) – More than $ 4 million will distributed to needy people in lockdown areas in Phnom Penh, Takhmao and Sihanoukville a total of more than 60,000 people.In the conference on the distribution of social assistance to the people in the three lockdown areas above, Mr. Theng Panhathorn, the Royal Government delegate and Director General of Planning of the Ministry of Planning, said that the people in the three lockdown areas to receive the support are more than 60,000 families, equivalent to more than 200,000 people.

 

This number does not include people with level 1 and level 2 poverty cards, as well as workers and employees who are receiving monthly support programs. At the conference, Mr. Theng Panhathorn also stated that according to the recommendation of Samdech Techo Hun Sen, the Prime Minister of Cambodia, the Ministry of Planning has one more week from June 10 to 17 for residents in the lockdown areas to protest or apply for the grant. 

 

According to a previous government press release, the program "Social assistance in cash after the lockdown" implemented for geographically affected large-scale lockdown measures in Phnom Penh, Takhmao, Kandal and Sihanoukville with poor living conditions.The families in Phnom Penh, Takhmao and Sihanoukville who will receive this support include; drivers, construction workers, street vendors, market clerks, garbage collectors and entertainment workers.

 

The Royal Government has also decided to provide cash support for families who have died due to Covid-19 and infected by Covid-19 and who have difficult lifelihood during the an outbreak of Covid-19. Separately, families with Covid-19 infected and living other areas beside lockdown areas with a difficult situation in Phnom Penh, Takhmao and Sihanoukville will also receive the same total cash support as the people living in the above-mentioned lockdown areas.
