Ministry of Foreign Affairs continues to hold a meeting on "Implementation of the Economic Diplomacy Strategy 2021-2023"
Phnom Penh (MGO) - Dr. Nhim Khemara, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Cambodia, this morning, June 11, 2021, chaired a meeting on "Implementation of the Economic Diplomacy Strategy 2021-2023" via Video Zoom. The meeting was attended by all Cambodian representatives abroad, the Cambodian Chamber of Commerce and the private sector.
Today's meeting is the second meeting, the first meeting was held on June 9, 2021 and opened by Mr. Ouch Borith, Minister Delegate to the Prime Minister and a Permanent Secretary of State of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The main purpose of this meeting is to further strengthen the cooperation between the state and the private sector, especially to promote closer relations between Cambodian Embassies abroad and the private sector in Cambodia to promote Cambodia's economic growth.
The "Economic Diplomacy Strategy 2021-2023" was officially launched under the chairmanship of Deputy Prime Minister Prak Sokhon, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation on January 18, 2021, aims to contribute to achieving the Royal Government's vision to transform Cambodia into a high middle income country by 2030 and a high income country by 2050 by promoting international trade, attracting direct investment from Overseas, promoting tourism and promoting cultural and sports exchanges.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the second meeting, Dr. Nhim Khemara highlighted the important role of the private sector in the effective implementation of economic diplomacy. He also emphasized the role of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in coordinating economic diplomacy with national ministries and institutions in the private sector in order to make all actors understand each other more closely and effectively.
In addition, in his presentation on Economic Diplomacy, Mr. Prak David, Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, also emphasized that the Cambodian economy is an open economy, but the Covid-19 crisis has severely affected the global supply chain and International tourism, which will cause the Cambodian economy to have negative growth in 2020. In order to continue its economic growth, Cambodia needs to continue to integrate its economy into the regional and global economy through its sharp tool, economic diplomacy.
At the end of the meeting, the meeting praised and appreciated the Foreign Ministry's initiative to facilitate this morning's meeting. The meeting agreed that economic diplomacy is a joint task that all ministries, national institutions and the private sector must work together, and the meeting also agreed to appoint a representative from all ministries, national institutions and the private sector to be able to Share information in a timely and effective manner.
