Cambodia Successfully Trains Dogs For Coronavirus Detection

Cambodia has successfully trained dogs to detect the whiff of people with COVID-19. “In this initial stage, we’re glade to inform that 3 CMAC’s detection dogs are able to detect VOC of 48 COVID-19 patients and 7 others are in remarkable progress!” Director General of the Cambodian Mine Action Centre (CMAC) underlined in a Facebook post today.

These dogs are bred in Cambodia and trained by Cambodian dog trainers, he added. Technically, H.E. Heng Ratana continued, dogs can sniff and smell the sample in about 10-15 seconds. COVID-19 detection dogs have been claimed to be effective for busy places such as airports, international gates and sport stadiums.

CMAC and the University of Health Sciences have worked together for research and development of COVID-19 detection dogs, at the initiative of Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen, the director general pointed out. According to experts, he said, there is no official evidence that there has been human-to-dog transmission of COVID-19.
